LIPSCOMB STREET, PALM BAY: Peter Filiberto, a Palm Bay city council member, has been and after he was found with 10 grams of cocaine stuffed in his shoe after speeding away from a traffic stop on Saturday night, January 11, 2023.
According to the arrest report, Filiberto was traveling "well above the 25mph posted speed limit," reports Officers witnessed Filiberto speeding on Lipscomb Street NE and tried to pull him over. However, Filiberto suddenly attempted to flee the traffic stop after the officer turned his back, but soon lost control of his motorcycle during a bungled U-turn and fell over. In a statement, the City of Palm Bay said that it will be working with the State Attorney’s Office to determine the formal charges. It also said it will release additional information, including body camera footage of Filberto's arrest. "The City will continue to cooperate with all involved agencies to ensure a transparent and appropriate process is followed regarding this matter," the statement read.
Commenting on Filiberto, Palm Bay Mayor Rob Medina, as quoted by said, "As mayor of the city of Palm Bay, I wanted to share my heart regarding the arrest of Councilman Filiberto. This is an active investigation and these are serious charges; however, I have full faith and confidence in the Palm Bay Police Department as they handle this matter with integrity and in accordance with the law. My prayers go out to Pete Filiberto and his family as they work through this situation. As you all know, my focus since being elected mayor has been to restore trust and confidence in the city and its leadership. And I want our community to know that I take this seriously, and we will continue to communicate and provide transparency through this process.”

According to Filiberto won a special election that was held on March 8, 2022, for Seat 5 on the Palm Bay City Council, as per the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections. He won by 6,408 votes out of 12,525 that were cast for one of the four candidates.
