Celebs Kicked Off Spooky Season With a Very Halloween-Inspired 2023 VMAs Red Carpet
The MTV VMAs are usually a showcase for celebs' sexiest, sparkliest, and most over-the-top outfits, and this year's red carpet was no exception. But there was another, slightly less expected adjective thrown into the fashion mix: spooky.
It may be *checks calendar* only mid-September, but celebrities are clearly ready for Halloween. From the moment Doja Cat arrived on the scene in nothing more than strategically wrapped spiderwebs and a thong, we knew this year's red carpet would have a different — and perhaps darker — energy than years past.
Ahead, we rounded up the best spooky fashion from the 2023 MTV VMAs so you can start planning your Halloween costume ASAP.
Doja Cat in Monse
We all know Doja Cat loves a theme (see the 2023 Met Gala, when she dressed as a literal cat and meowed on the red carpet), and her cobweb gown by Monse proves she's all in on autumn. Daring as it may be, the fit is executed to perfection — those craft cobwebs from the party store could never.
Rita Ora in Rodarte
Ora usually prefers to show a good amount of skin with her red carpet looks, but she subverted expectations in this covered-up, Elvira-esque black gown from Rodarte's fall 2023 collection with exaggerated sleeves. But the star still kept a little bit of a party vibe, thanks to her silver platform heels.
Saweetie in Area
We should have known when Saweetie sat in the front row at Area's Fall/Winter 2023 fashion show on Sunday that she would turn right around and wear a fresh-off-the-runway 'fit two days later at the VMAs. Her bone-accented cutout pink gown was giving Flintstones meets Studio 54, and we're here for it.
Billy Porter in Namara
Porter looked like a chic Victorian ghost with this head-to-toe white look by Namara by Daniel Moloney. Details like the dramatic collar, statement Erickson Beamon jewelry, and side-parted two-tone hair brought the look to life (or, in this case, death).
Demi Lovato in Buerlangma
Demi Lovato saw the oversized jacket trend, and raised it to Frankenstein proportions with this look by Chinese label Buerlangma. With slicked-back hair and a super-smoky cat-eye, their beauty look only added to the vibe.
