7th Street market opens in uptown Charlotte WSOC TV
None — City leaders marked the opening of the 7th Street Public Market Tuesday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The market has been under construction in the old Reid's Foods building in uptown Charlotte for the past few months.
"We are thrilled about all the people coming together to open this Market," says Christy Shi, Executive Director of 7th Street Public Market. "It has such a strong mission that will do so much good for the Charlotte community and its rural neighbors. We are so excited about the prospect of moving out of the construction phase and into celebrating and supporting local producers and food artisans."
Vendors include a soap maker, baker, butcher, and an assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables. There are about a dozen vendors currently.
Organizers said the market it designed to help small businesses grow. The goal is to eventually create a market district in the area, they said.
"This market is intended to help us incubate new food businesses while also bringing about greater access to healthier food," Shi said.
The market also has a free basic health clinic with a nutritionist.
The market will be open between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and will have shorter hours on weekends.
